It’s been a while since I noticed the unusual chapel and the equally unusual icon a few steps from our house. It was the second week of stay in our new house when I first noticed it.

I was on my way to the dormitory when a black structure caught my attention. It is a one-storey structure. Its roof is black with a tinge of white lining on sides, it has metal for pillars, and it has black walls. (Actually wla pa xang wall nung una kong post)

I think it’s cool so I walked slower, fixing my eyes on it.


I noticed a wiry figure outside the black structure. It was an icon of Jesus nailed on a white cement cross. The figure is just majestic. It is beautifully crafted with interwoven wires. No cement, no porcelain. Just plain wires.

Of course it’s a chapel. It must be the chapel that rings the bell. The monotonous ‘douwnnngg’ which interrupts my sleep every Sunday morning.

The chapel was empty except for the icon and a bible stand. There wasn’t even a single chair littering the place.

As I was carrying two bags stuffed heavy with clothes and things, I didn’t bother checking it closer.

I wonder if the priest preaches the same lesson?
Do people sing the normal Catholic songs?
Are they Christians too?
Or is their affiliation different from Christianity?

It would be cool if it’s a new cult after all. But without the human sacrifice please..

Enough said. I’ll just see for myself.
